We are pleased to announce the list of participants of the 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno.

Following not only current events, but also bearing man’s elementary need for freedom of expression in mind, in today’s times the primordial question about the concept of freedom imposes itself on everyone from time to time.

It has been shown that this free act is still denied to someone in some corner of the world despite the times of democracy and all generally accepted declarations on human rights. The question arises, what is freedom for someone?  Is it always available to everyone or is it just a spurious social phenomenon?

Art is, in any case, a living and ubiquitous phenomenon of humanity. It is a self-renewing mechanism with infinite variations of human thinking.

This time, the organiser of the International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno has invited artists to speak, as authors through artistic freedom, not only about the ideal, but also about man’s fundamental need for the free act. The artists have been invited to express their vision of freedom, freedom of spirit and its limits. The strength of art is that it uncompromisingly assumes the right to speak both about individuality and personal reflections, as well as about the state of society. And as revolutionary is it may be at times, it has the power to lay the collective consciousness bare and ultimately bring people together.

95 artists from 35 counties of the world are participating at the 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno.

The artists have, each according to their own sensibility, their experience, and historical and social circumstances, spoken about the concept of freedom in their own way. There is no part of the world that does not have its own story about freedom or the lack of it. Some artists spoke through historical and social, or mythological reviews, some referred to ecological topics, others expressed personal reflections on freedom, and some took artistic freedom by not accepting the given topic. Well, that is ultimately a free act.

In addition to the review exhibition of the graphic arts Triennial, we also present the graphic art oeuvre of Lukša Peko entitled Graphic Art as a Path to Healing. For this author graphic art was a saving act of liberation. The purification of anxious emotions that found their transformation through the artistic form and spoke about universal pain that is always ubiquitous. Peko’s graphic cycle is a humanist’s cry for the value of human dignity, a cry for freedom, not only of thought but also of existence. With his unobtrusive, self-effacing, yet daring work, through his own catharsis, he created metaphysical scenes of solitude and thus gave a contribution to the universe of pain and all deprived of freedom in his own specific way.

The 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno, as a field of new confrontations of various forms of freedom is a vital reflection on the stimulating impulses of multi-original art, which in contemporary art still has its artistic dimension – both in technical terms and in visual interpretation.

The gathered authors from 35 countries of the world at the 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno testify that art is a medium that enables freedom of expression and remind man that in the end, the limits are only those that we impose on ourselves.
