The Limits of Freedom

The Franciscan Museum and Gallery Gorica – Livno, organiser of the International Triennial of Graphic Art Livno, announces the topic “The Limits of Freedom” for the 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Arts Livno, which will be held from June 26th to October 1st of the year 2023.

Following not only current events, but also having the fundamental human need for freedom of expression in mind, the primordial question of the notion of freedom arises also in present times. The organiser wishes that artists, through artistic freedom, speak not only of ideals, but also of the fundamental human need for the free act.

Freedom. A very powerful word that is very fragile and ambiguous in its essence.

Perhaps the best definition of freedom is the freedom of human spirit. However, with such a relative notion, it is clear that freedom means different circumstances and feeling for different people.

The power of art is that it uncompromisingly takes it upon itself to speak of individuality, of the state of society, of personal reflections, and as revolutionary as it may sometimes be, it exposes the collective consciousness and ultimately unites people.

Within the 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Art Livno, we want artists to express their vision of their own freedom, freedom of spirit, and the limits of freedom. Art is a medium that allows freedom of expression and reminds people that the boundaries are only within us.

The 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Art Livno as a field of new confrontations of various forms of artistic freedom will certainly be a vital reflection on stimulating impulses of traditional graphic practice, which has its regenerating dimension in contemporary art.
