Join Folkestone Triennial on Wednesday 19 July from 6pm at the Mariner, 16 The Stade, Folkestone, CT19 6AB, for a very special preview talk with Jonathan Wright.
He will be discussing his commission for Folkestone Triennial 2017, Fleet on Foot and how it revealed how little he understood about the fishing industry until now.
The fishing industry has been in conflict with government for many years and has seen its position as an essential industry under threat. The profession is also deeply immersed in a literary and artistic tradition that grows out of the heroic and mysterious relationship with the power of the sea and the harvesting of its produce.
Fleet on Foot aims to put the issues faced by inshore fishing fleets into the public eye and also to celebrate the continuing romance of the fishermen’s relationship with the elements.
