Minutes and Discussions from 1st In Person Working Committee Meeting, Ekaterinburg, Russia, October 2015

October 2015 saw IBA’s first in-person Working Committee meeting. The meeting was held in cooperation with the 3rd Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art in Ekaterinburg, Russia. It was initiated by IBA in collaboration with IBA member Alisa Prudnikova, the biennial’s commissioner and artistic director, with support from the Vladimir Potanin Foundation. The meeting took place on October 7 and 8, 2015.

An exceptional 2-day meeting was presented. The first day, October 7, saw IBA members give presentations and talks about their current and past projects. The second day, October 8, featured Russian speakers with backgrounds in biennials, Russian art and culture, funding and more. Discussions centered on support for regional projects, ultimately focusing on how local contexts and potential problems shape biennials.

The second day also included an informal IBA-member meeting to discuss internal matters. Seven members were present during this meeting (not including three observers and IBA Office staff taking minutes), and all four topics were discussed together: programming, research, policy and finance.
