La Biennale de Lyon, chaired by Laurent Bayle, and its public partners — the Ministry of Culture (Auvergne-Rhône -Alpes regional directorate of cultural affairs – DRAC), the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, the Lyon Métropole authority and the Lyon City Council — are pleased to announce the appointment of Sabine Longin as chief executive of La Biennale de Lyon, with effect from 1 June 2024.
This appointment marks a fresh milestone in the development of this institution, which stages the Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art and the Lyon Dance Biennale, two cultural events of national and global standing.
Sabine Longin will lead La Biennale de Lyon. Isabelle Bertolotti (also director of Lyon’s Musée d’Art Contemporain) is the artistic director of the Biennale of Contemporary Art; and Tiago Guedes (also director of Lyon’s Maison de la Danse since 2022) is the artistic director of the Dance Biennale.
Deeply involved in the arts and culture field since 1994, Sabine Longin served as cultural attaché, then later as cooperation and cul-tural action adviser to the French Embassy in Qatar (Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs), starting in 2013; as deputy director of the Fondation Giacometti Paris; and most recently, as chief executive of the Musée National Picasso-Paris (a public establishment overseen by the Ministry of Culture).
The Board of Trustees of La Biennale de Lyon, which confirmed her appointment on 7 May 2024, is “convinced that her vision and leadership will be a major asset for the institution and foster the regional, national and international development of the two events that it stages, which are em-blematic of new work in dance and contemporary art”.
Under Sabine Longin’s leadership, La Biennale de Lyon will develop its international reach and an ambitious partnership policy. The institution, which is strongly committed to innovation and cross-disciplinary work, will extend its regional roots and take further steps to make its events accessible to all audiences.
