The open call for the SACO1.2 Contemporary Art Biennial Dark Ecosystems, presented by Escondida | BHP, is now open and will receive until October 29, 2024, proposals from artists from around the world who want to be part of the exhibition that will be displayed at the Melbourne Clark Historic Pier in Antofagasta, Chile.
The event will take place between June and September 2025, and is funded by the Collaborating Cultural Organizations Program PAOCC, of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile, and the selection will be made by a jury composed of professionals from various fields, such as curatorship, visual arts and cultural management, who will review the quality, relevance to the space and mainly, the relationship of the projects with the curatorial concept of the edition.

Inés Ortega-Márquez (Spain-Chile)
Independent curator and researcher, Master in Cultural Management from the University of Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. She develops her work nationally and internationally, in different countries and continents. In the last 15 years she has curated more than 35 exhibitions in relevant institutions and museums -including the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Chile- curating the work of more than 50 relevant contemporary artists and national award-winning grand masters in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Italy and Spain.
Fernando García (Bolivia)
Cultural manager, heritage architect, university professor, and visual artist. He has worked in Syria, Spain, Italy and Bolivia, in projects related to heritage and culture. He is currently executive director of mARTadero, an integral and multidimensional project, self-managed and assembly-based, focused on social transformation, conceived as a nursery for the arts and located in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He directs the production of cultural events in the mARTadero, and in public spaces for the Municipal Government. He is editor of El Guía, an independent cultural agenda of the city.
Alicja Głuszek (Poland)
Doctor, producer and curator of cultural events and exhibitions. Formerly associated with the National Museum in Krakow, Photomonth and Unsound festivals as a coordinator of contemporary art exhibitions. Curator of the program of the Krakow art fair Brand New Art Fair. Art critic writing for Contemporary Lynx, Mint Magazine and Elements Magazine.
Fernando Farina (Argentina)
Holds a degree in Fine Arts (specializing in Art Theory and Criticism) and a degree in Civil Engineering from the National University of Rosario. Between 1999 and 2007 he was director of the Castagnino Museum of Rosario, and since its creation in 2004 and until 2007 of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rosario (MACRO), an institution that was inaugurated from the creation of the largest collection of contemporary Argentine art. He was also Secretary of Culture of the city of Rosario (2007-2009) and director of the National Fund for the Arts of Argentina for the discipline Visual Arts, between 2007 and 2016.
Dagmara Wyskiel (Poland-Chile)
PhD in Art from the University of Fine Arts in Krakow. Co-founder of the Collective SE VENDE Mobile Platform of Contemporary Art, director of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art, SACO. Intervened with large format object actions in Valle de los Meteoritos in the Atacama Desert, ALMA astronomical observatory, Lake Amargo in the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, old Jewish quarter in Krakow, British coast and port of Valparaiso.
Once the call has ended, the experts will receive the proposals that have passed the admissibility and technical feasibility stages, in charge of SACO’s External Relationships manager, Carlos Rendón, and SACO’s General Producer, Christian Núñez, respectively.
With a first individual review of each of the projects, and a group deliberation by video call, the jury will determine which will be the seven selected site-specific projects, results that will be announced in January 2025.
