Last weeks to apply to the international call of the SACO Contemporary Art Biennial

The call for artists from all over the world to submit their exhibition proposals, to be part of the SACO1.2 Dark Ecosystems Biennial, it’s open until October 29. The biennial will run from June to September 2025, emphasizing the connections between art and science, inspired by the resistance of the extremophiles that inhabit the Atacama Desert. In its twelfth version, this exhibition event is presented by Escondida | BHP and is financed by the Chilean Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.

The call is open to visual artists, regardless of age, education, professional dedication or any other factor. The main evaluation criteria is the quality of the proposal, its viability and relevance to the curatorial concept Dark Ecosystems, and the place where the selected works of art will be exhibited: the Melbourne Clark Historic Pier in Antofagasta.

Sandy Gutkowski, Argentine artist who was selected for the SACO1.1 Coup Biennial (2023), invited her peers to get motivated and send their proposals, indicating that “it is a very important experience, because on an artistic level it is an incredible scenario, as well as on a human level. What happened in the exchange between the artists and especially with the public, which I had the opportunity to meet outdoors and make them participants of the art works, was worth it”.

The selected artists will travel to Antofagasta for a 10-day residency at the Latin American Superior Art Institute (ISLA) in July 2025, where they will be able to materialize their works. The call covers travel expenses from the place of origin to Antofagasta, logistical support for the mounting of the exhibition, lodging, food, and dissemination of their exhibition through their social networks and other communication channels.
