SITE Santa Fe 12th International
Once Within a Time
June 27 2025 – January 12 2026
SITE Santa Fe 12th International
We are thrilled to see the announcement of the participating artists for SITE Santa Fe’s 12th International, Once Within a Time, and we look forward to sharing wonderful moments together with our members in Santa Fe. As this year’s 12th IBA General Assembly (June 30–July 3, 2025), will take place in partnership with SITE Santa Fe, we are excited to have a chance to witness this much anticipated project curated by Cecilia Alemani unfold alongside our gathering of biennial makers. This collaboration underscores SITE Santa Fe’s role as a vital space for the arts in the region and far beyond it while reinforcing IBA’s commitment to fostering dialogue and sharing experiences between biennials globally.
SITE Santa Fe has unveiled its long-awaited 12th International exhibition, Once Within a Time, curated by Cecilia Alemani. Opening on June 27, 2025, and running through January 12, 2026, this edition draws inspiration and borrows its title from the work of acclaimed filmmaker Godfrey Reggio. Reggio’s film Once Within a Time (2022) blends fairytale elements with apocalyptic themes, a conceptual framework that informs the exhibition’s exploration of storytelling, history, and the cultural fabric of New Mexico.
In a first, this iteration of the International will extend beyond SITE SANTA FE to more than a dozen locations across the city. These partner venues comprise cultural institutions such as the New Mexico History Museum including the Palace of the Governors, the Museum of International Folk Art, the New Mexico Military Museum, the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian, and the St. Francis Auditorium at the New Mexico Museum of Art, as well as spaces in a local park, a former foundry, empty storefronts, the lounge of a cannabis shop, and more. These locations set the tone for novel dialogues between figures, artists, and places, prompting visitors to explore different corners of Santa Fe.
Conceived as a vast family album, Once Within a Time centers people—specifically, those who have inhabited, traversed, or left their mark upon the Sante Fe region across the centuries. Transcending a singular theme or narrative, the 12th SITE SANTA FE International manifests as a symphony of voices, engaging with the city of Santa Fe and its myriad identities and histories.
