The 14th Gwangju Biennale to Unveil in 2023

The Gwangju Biennale Foundation officially announced that the 14th Gwangju Biennale will be held for 94 days from April 7 to July 9 in 2023.

The Biennale is known to be held in even years for 66 days, opening on the first Friday of September, and closing on the first Sunday of November. The 13th edition was postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 14th Gwangju Biennale is scheduled to open in 2023 to secure sufficient time for preparation.

There have been suggestions that the customary two-month period is relatively short considering the Gwangju Biennale is an international mega art event. A similar consensus was shared among the Board of Trustees during its 177th meeting. With its extended dates, the 14th Biennale is expected to provide visitors with ample opportunity to enjoy diverse cultures and share their impressions with others.

Gwangju Biennale Foundation President Yang-woo Park stated, “we are aware there are a number of people who have unfortunately missed the Biennale due to its limited duration. It is our hope, as the longest Gwangju Biennale ever to take place, the 14th Gwangju Biennale will also contribute to the general expansion of culture and the arts.”
