The Gwangju Biennale Foundation (President Park Yang-woo) announced the 15th Gwangju Biennale Symposium, titled Echoes of Tomorrow: Soundscapes in the Age of Advanced Computing, will be held on September 8. The Symposium features world-renowned speakers, providing an in-depth understanding of the exhibition while facilitating multidisciplinary discussions in conjunction with the opening of the 15th Gwangju Biennale Pansori, a soundscape of the 21st century.

The 15th Gwangju Biennale Symposium Echoes of Tomorrow: Soundscapes in the Age of Advanced Computing consists of a variety of lectures and performances across two sessions: “Quantum realities and AI technologies” and “Trace of the real in quantified realities.” The academic event is co-curated by Nicolas Bourriaud, Artistic Director of the 15th Gwangju Biennale, and Dr. Noam Segal, LG Electronics Associate Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum as the collaborating institution. Dr. Noam Segal is a former professor at the New York School of Visual Arts and currently serves as the Curator for the technology based art at the Guggenheim Museum.

The Symposium presents various perspectives on sound and contemporary advanced technologies, aiming to deeply expand the understanding of sound and technology. It explores the extensive possibilities of sound reproduction influenced by machine learning and quantum realities, through lectures, panel discussions, and live performances and simulations.

The Symposium, featuring scholars and artists from diverse fields, unfolds the richness of sound as a medium for understanding the spaces we inhabit and highlights how technology has both expanded and constrained our perception of various soundscapes. It provides a platform for extensive exploration into contemporary issues at the intersection of art, technology, and society.

The Symposium will take place on Sunday, September 8 at ACC Archive & Research, Theater 3 of the National Asian Culture Center (ACC), located in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in Korean and English. Registration will take place on a first-come, first-served basis through the Gwangju Biennale Foundation website where more information on the program can be found.
