Dates: September 7 – December 7, 2016
Location: Cali, Colombia
http://museolibre.org/bienal/
MULI MUSEUM and the International Biennial Muli of Muralism and Public Art were founded in 2012 to address social issues through the arts in the city of Cali, Colombia. The 3rd International Biennial MULI, taking place from September 7 through December 7, 2016, will host the work of 40 artists from five regions of Colombia, 30 from 15 countries around the world, and 2 Colombian artists living abroad; all selected through an open call and special invitations, for a total of 72 national and international artists.
The Biennial has four main components:
a. Live Art (September 7 – 14, 2016): Development of work open to the public in 10 simultaneous locations throughout the city.
b. Education (September 7 – 9, 2016): MULI Congress. A gathering around art, urban public space, civic culture and social issues where students, artists, researchers, curators, architects and sociologists will share their knowledge, questions and points of view with 300 participants from more than 15 countries around the world.
c. Performance (September 7 – December 7, 2016): Dynamic, interactive activities and experiences across the city will raise awareness of the senses, and recognition of the community.
d. Exhibitions (September 7 – December 7, 2016): Exhibitions will be scheduled in all Museum Pavilions with workshops and conferences taking place in different parts of the city.
Although human beings have always thought they have five senses, we now know that at least 20 senses arise from our body and soul. In this 3rd edition, the International Biennial MULI of Muralism and Public Art aims to generate detonators that stimulate our senses, in an attempt to break the structures that limit us (feelings such as loneliness, sadness, fear, insecurity). What if we throw down the self-imposed wall and become spontaneous again? We believe that art can raise awareness and free our senses as a first step to heal our wounded soul.
Through this edition’s curatorial concept: Women / Nature / Classical Mythology / Abstraction, artists will interact with the audiences with that main purpose in mind.
The International Biennial MULI of Muralism and Public Art is an opportunity for national and international artists to meet and share experiences, feelings and points of view about issues and projects concerning human and social development, while building cultural heritage.
Artists are free to choose any style and technique to do their work. We suggest the following, but feel free to choose any other. Styles: Pop, Urban, Street Art, Expressionism, Figurative, Folk, Photorealism, Illustration, Impressionism, Minimalism, Modernism, Realism, Portrait, Surrealism. Techniques: Collage, Food Art, Drawing, Installation, Mosaic, New Media, Painting, Performance, Resin, Photography, Printing, Graphic Arts, Sculpture, Sgraffito, Video.
Grants
Continuing with our strategic alliance with the International Biennial Association (IBA), we offer three grants for members who wish to participate as speakers in the MULI Congress. The MULI Committee will select these speakers.
We offer accreditation for IBA partners, and have ten grants for international artists attending the Live Art event who will be selected through an International Open Call.

About MULI MUSEUM
MULI is a private, non-profit institution, permanently open to the public, which investigates, documents, interprets, communicates, narrates, exhibits and preserves material and immaterial testimonies of public art, while acknowledging the cultural, economic and social diversity. MULI promotes the democratic access to information and knowledge through participation and constant dialogue with the public. Clearly socially oriented, MULI aims to address social issues through the arts in order to rebuild and repair the social tissue while transforming individuals and their communities. We are constantly working to give new significance to those identified territories where appropriation of the physical public space, and also human relations need to be improved.
