SACO1.1 “Coup” International CallThe SACO Contemporary Art Biennial invites artists to participate in the open call “Coup” for its main exhibition at the Melbourne Clark Historic Pier in Antofagasta. From September 1 to November 4, creators from all over the world can submit their proposals to be part of one of the most important events of visual arts and Chile.
The selection of the seven site-specific projects will be the mission of a jury composed of professionals from various fields, such as art critics, curatorship and visual arts. The jury will evaluate the quality, relevance to the space and the connection of the projects with the curatorial concept.
“Once again, we are opening the call to artists from all over the world, without distinction in educational level, age or any other factor, so that they can immerse themselves and be inspired by the Atacama Desert. This time, the theme will be related to what happened in Chile half a century ago, and from that we will work around the theme of human violence”, said Dagmara Wyskiel, director of the SACO Biennial.
The selected creators will experience a residence of 10 days at the Latin American Superior Institute (ISLA), for the materialization and montage of their artworks, which will be displayed at the Historic Pier from July to September 2023. After the opening, they will participate in an immersive trip to the Atacama Desert.
“There is no nation without a story of power, military, racial or religious terrorism. It doesn’t matter how far away we are from those who today resist; the universal experience of being a victim of a coup and oppression allows us to be emphatic and create for others”, says the curatorial text of the SACO1.1 Biennale, which you can read at www.bienalsaco.com, where the guidelines and application form are also available.
