Dear Members,
International Biennial Association (IBA) held its 1st In-Person Working Committee meeting in Ekaterinburg, Russia, last month on October 7-8, in collaboration with the 3rd Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art. Under the theme Mobilization and Changes: Biennial as a Resource for Territory Openness, a two-day symposium took place. IBA members in attendance spoke about their biennials and discussed challenges and achievements on the first day. The second day introduced Russian biennial directors, founders and partners as they discussed contemporary art and the challenges that face biennials today.
The second day also saw a meeting between IBA members, in which discussions were held on the sustainability and progression of IBA. Among the topics discussed was the need for open communication between all members. Attention was given to a monthly newsletter, through which all external matters should be communicated, rather than a periodic newsletter published only when main events are approaching. Additionally, the need for a complementary connection between IBA and Biennial Foundation was suggested, as well as the need for a resource through which members can connect.
Regarding this point, IBA has already established the Interactive Space on its website. Accessible via your username and password, this is a space for members to connect with one another, share ideas and build upon them to grow the association and the value of membership. I encourage you to log in now and begin taking advantage of this platform. Please email the IBA Office if you need assistance logging in.
Photos from the symposium and minutes from the IBA member meeting can be found on our website.
