Dear members,
The International Biennial Association’s International Conference “Biennials in Transformation: Hybridization as New Challenge” will take place in Shanghai on September 3!
On September 3, IBA members and the public will gather at the Power Station of Art to hear from a range of different scholars across a multitude of cultural fields and participate in discussions about biennials in transformation. The first session, titled “Multidisciplinarity as the New Paradigm“, taking place from 10am – 1pm, will consider the application of the new multidisciplinary paragidm. Session two, “Biennial Format at Stake”, from 3pm to 6pm, will attempt to analyze how the transformation to multidisciplinarity will change the biennial format. The conference is free and open to the public, and registration begins at 9am. Please RSVP via one of the links below.
The Shanghai Project’s opening ceremony will take place on the following day, September 4. Three roundtable discussions will be held in the morning. The afternoon will see “Landversation”, a piece conceived by artist Otobong Nkanga and performed by Adib Dada, Peter Webb and others TBA. “Landversation” utilizes several different media to convey the human relation to land and expose the complex ways in which we inhabit the Earth and are dependent on it. The afternoon will also see the opening of both the Envision Pavilion, designed by architect Sou Fujimoto, and Seed Planet, a children’s pavilion created by artist Liu Yi.
The IBA International Conference is organized by the IBA Office, and hosted by the Shanghai Project in collaboration with the Power Station of Art.
